Westernization
According to M.N. Srinivas, Westernization refers to “the changes brought about in Indian society and culture as a result of over 150 years of British rule and the term subsumes changes occurring at different levels – technology, institutions, ideology, values.”
Why the Term Sanskritization is preferable to Brahminization?
M.N. Srinivas prefers Sanskritization to Brahminization due to the following reasons –
a. Sanskritization is a broader term and can include the narrower process of Brahminization.
b. The reference groups of Sanskritization are not always Brahmins.
